E-Wings technology is the result of an ingenious effort to make wingsuit flying autonomous. Thanks to a motorized module that can be worn like a backpack, the user is in control of four electric thrusters. These thrusters are capable of generating flight speeds in excess of 280 km/h. One of our most remarkable innovations is the E-Wings project, which aims to create the ultimate human flying experience using electric turbines combined with a wingsuit. The E-Wings system consists of two sets of Lipo 16S batteries, each with a capacity of 30,000 mAh. These batteries power four 145 mm-diameter EDF turbines, each providing 14 kg of thrust. The whole system is managed by four electronic speed controllers (ESCs), which control the flow of electricity between the batteries and the motors.
The system is mounted on a carbon fiber support plate, using sandwich technology to withstand accelerations of over 6G in all directions. This plate houses the electronics and acts as the link between the motors and the pilot. The total weight of the motor system is 30 kg, plus 5 kg of Kevlar protective clothing.
The wingsuit used for the E-Wings project is a modified Aura 4, manufactured by Squirrel, offering an excellent glide angle and a large surface area for high-performance flight despite the extra weight. The wingsuit has been modified with safety systems and technical improvements specific to E-Wings, including an instant arm release system which allows the pilot to free his arms despite the four turbines in front of him. The E-Wings system is directly connected to the parachute harness for added stability.
